Danny Rectenwald

Danny is a member of Pittsburgh's favorite rock band, the Bastard Bearded Irishmen. He is also a solo recording artist and picks a bit of mandolin with Sweaty Already when he gets the chance.

The open bluegrass jam at Hambones, 4207 Butler St. in Lawrenceville, has proved to be both popular as well as delicious!  On March 15 and April 19 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., bring an instrument and an appetite! If you don't pick, just stop by to listen and enjoy brunch ($10) courtesy of Mary Jo's homecookin'!

Members of the band, along with plenty of the Pittsburgh region's best pickers, are regulars at the weekly Tuesday Bluegrass Sessions, 8-11 p.m. at the beautiful new Thunderbird Café Porch Stage. Founders beer specials and an open jam in the back room on non-show nights, 4023 Butler St., in Lawrenceville!

Originally conceived as a reference to Pat's default state-of-being between April and September — as in, "We haven't even started the show yet and Pat's sweaty already!" — the Sweaty Already String Band hits the stage with a blend of traditional and modern bluegrass, along with some unexpected covers.

We played our highest number of gigs yet in 2019, and 2020 is shaping up to be even better. Our summer calendar is already filling up with festivals, and while the weather is chilly, you can usually catch us once a month at our home base, Biers Pub on the North Side!

One of the best things about the local bluegrass community is how many pals we have with the talent to jump in and pick for an evening. Our good pal Danny Rectenwald fills that role as much as possible, but when he's busy with the Bastard Bearded Irishmen, you never know who you might catch sittin' in and gettin' sweaty with us!
