Kick it and pick it.
The past few months have pretty much changed everything, including the musical landscape for the foreseeable future. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the pandemic: those who are suffering from covid-19 directly and indirectly, including our musician friends who are now relying on the generosity of their fans to make their living.
We're thankful to have our regular jobs to fall back on, but we're still itching to make music, and we've slowly been doing it! Here are a few of our recent livestreams, and we're slowly looking at the different ways we might be able to keep pickin' this fall!
Jim is a veteran of the former Mon River Ramblers. He's been sitting in with us off and on for a while, and now he's sittin' in all the time!
Jason Ericsson sits in with us on banjo at Biers Pub in Pittsburgh's Mexican War Streets neighborhood.
Pete, Trish & Pat perform with Dead & in the Way at the Rex Theater in Pittsburgh's South Side.
Originally conceived as a reference to Pat's default state-of-being between April and September — as in, "We haven't even started the show yet and Pat's sweaty already!" — the Sweaty Already String Band hits the stage with a blend of traditional and modern bluegrass, along with some unexpected covers and original tunes steeped in the tradition of the Appalachian region where we all grew up.
We played our highest number of gigs yet in 2019, and 2020 WAS shaping up to be even better. But as things slowly even out, we're finding out just how amazing and supportive our friends in the local musician and fan community can be, especially when they're itching to hear live music again!
One of the best things about the local bluegrass community is how many pals we have with the talent to jump in and pick for an evening. We've been lucky enough to have Danny Rectenwald from the Bastard Bearded Irishmen rollin' with us, along with regional friends like DeAnna Efaw, Megan Williams, Dr. Jon Finder, Jason Ericsson and more.!
